Princess of the Cyclades” and “nymph of the Aegean” was the name of Syros Island, the homeland of the philosopher Pherekydes, teacher of Pythagoras. Neolithic Syros was one of the most important islands of Cycladic culture. In the 13th century passed into the Venetians. The foundation and life of the medieval city, built on a hill above the port, characterizing the island to this day. During the Turkish occupation, many persecuted people from other islands were settled in Syros and, at the end of the 19th century, the island experienced unprecedented growth, filled with shipyards, trading posts, factories and with a center of Ermoupoli, became one of the most cosmopolitan areas of the Aegean. It has an area of 84 sq.km, a coastline of 87 km, and a population of 19,800 inhabitants.

Swimming in Galissa, one of the most crowded beaches, in Agathopes and Komitos. You will find beautiful sandy beaches in Kini, Delfini, Aetos and Lia. Grammata beach is accessible by boat, while other notable beaches of the island are Vari, Azolimnos, Foinikas, Achladi, Fabrica, Empatis and Santorinii. Also, other beaches of interest are Ambela, Tria Lagonia and Poseidonia.
